Sign painting is where my journey began over ten years ago.
The discipline and craft needed to hone these techniques led to a wider artistic rediscovery that has led to me where I am today.
Sign painting has run as a constant thread in my work alongside my art. In between exhibitions and brand collaborations I spend time up ladders on London streets in the cold and the chaos painting lettering for businesses.
Signs can be art as well of course, but usually they’re just signs. That doesn’t mean they’re not important though, or that they can’t be beautiful.
SHOP SIGNS
Signs can come in all shapes and sizes and be painted on all kinds of surfaces. But the classic sign painting job is the fascia. Here is a selection of shop fascia signs painted over the years.
Glass Gilding
The most aristocratic of sign painting techniques reverse-glass gilding produces stunning mirrored gilded surfaces that catch the eye of passers by like nothing else. I’ve used this technique a lot in my artwork. But I love livening up the window spaces of businesses or giving a house number a magic touch.
