HAND PAINTED SIGNS

Signs painted the old way

Sign painting is where my journey began over ten years ago.

The discipline and craft needed to hone these techniques led to a wider artistic rediscovery that has led to me where I am today.

Sign painting has run as a constant thread in my work alongside my art. In between exhibitions and brand collaborations I spend time up ladders on London streets in the cold and the chaos painting lettering for businesses.

Signs can be art as well of course, but usually theyā€™re just signs. That doesnā€™t mean theyā€™re not important though, or that they canā€™t be beautiful.

SHOP SIGNS

Signs can come in all shapes and sizes and be painted on all kinds of surfaces. But the classic sign painting job is the fascia. Here is a selection of shop fascia signs painted over the years.

Glass Gilding

The most aristocratic of sign painting techniques reverse-glass gilding produces stunning mirrored gilded surfaces that catch the eye of passers by like nothing else. Iā€™ve used this technique a lot in my artwork. But I love livening up the window spaces of businesses or giving a house number a magic touch.
